Re:create server - 2008/04/10 00:11
Hi Phil,
Yes, you can't run palabre on a shared server, where you have many domains being run off a single server box (usually).
There are two solutions (that I know of)
- Get a Dedicated Server (expensive ->very expensive) - Get a Virtual Private Server (VPS) (cheap->expensive)
A VPS is a fancy shared server, where everyone runs in there own virtual sandbox. I got mine through servInt
I've only had them for a month, and I'm on their cheapest VPS plan, but so far, I have been very impressed, and their customer service has been excellent.
It's still more expensive than plain vanilla webhost, but you're essentially becoming your own mini-ISP, which means if you have more than one site, you can move them all over. For my wife and I, (assuming we actually get around to transfering the other sites), this will actually save us money.
One word of warning, though. Running your own server is no small task. ServInt has been very helpful, but all those things that your current webhost does for you automatically, well, a lot of that now falls on you. With great power come great responsibility, etc., etc.
